Video Program Notes: Sarah Cahill
Pianist Sarah Cahill plays and talks about the music of Frederic Rzewski, including his arrangement of the anti-war song Down by the Riverside which inspired Cahill's January 25, 2009, concert A Sweeter Music. For the program, she commissioned 18 composers to write new works on the theme of peace. The concert includes a new work by Frederic Rzewski. (Length 6:30)


Video Program Notes: Three Decembers
Composer Jake Heggie plays excerpts from and talks about his new chamber opera Three Decembers. The opera stars mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade and is about the loving but often-strained relationship between a famous actress and her two grown children. (Length: 6:30)


Video Performance: Made in Catalunya with Lou Reed and
Laurie Anderson

On October 24, 2008, performance artist Laurie Anderson (in Berkeley, California) joined musician/poet Lou Reed (in Barcelona, Spain) via the internet to perform the works of Catalan poets Brossa, Espriu, Carner and Vinyoli. The 45 minute live performance, in English, as experienced last year at the Made in Catalunya event in New York City, was presented by KOSMOPOLIS International Literature Fest; video performance, produced by Cal Performances.

Watch and listen as choreographer Merce Cunningham and Cal Performances' Director Robert Cole visit Ford Point, the the former Ford assembly plant in Richmond that will serve as the venue for the Craneway Event, a new site-specific work to be performed by the Merce Cunningham Dance Company on Sunday, November 9. AileyCamp, the nationally acclaimed youth program, conceived by Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and administrated by Cal Performances, teaches dance and life lessons to Berkeley/Oakland middle school students.
